Home of the Samburu Special Five · Samburu County, northern Kenya
Samburu is dry, rugged country in northern Kenya along the Ewaso Nyiro River. It is home to the “Samburu Special Five” you will not find in the southern parks: reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, beisa oryx, gerenuk and the Somali ostrich.
Elephants come down to the river every day, and leopards are often seen in the riverine forest. The neighbouring Buffalo Springs and Shaba reserves and the Sera Community Conservancy are part of the same wild landscape.
About 5–6 hours by road from Nairobi via Nanyuki and Isiolo, or around 1 hour by scheduled flight from Wilson Airport.
June–October and December–March are dry and great for game viewing around the river.
