Red elephants and wild open space · Taita-Taveta County, between Nairobi and Mombasa
Tsavo East and Tsavo West together form one of the largest protected areas in Africa. Tsavo East is flat and open, famous for its “red elephants” dusted with the park’s red soil, Aruba Dam and the Lugard Falls on the Galana River.
Tsavo West is more volcanic and scenic, with Mzima Springs, the Shetani lava flow and the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary. Tsavo sits on the Nairobi–Mombasa road and SGR railway, so it pairs perfectly with a beach holiday.
Take the SGR Madaraka Express to Voi and we pick you up, or drive about 5–6 hours from Nairobi or 2–3 hours from Mombasa.
All year. The dry months (June–October, January–February) concentrate animals at the water holes.
