Malindi is a lively beach town with a long history: Vasco da Gama landed here in 1498 and his stone pillar still stands on the shore. Today it is known for the Malindi Marine National Park, deep-sea fishing and a strong Italian food scene.
An afternoon trip inland takes you to Marafa, “Hell’s Kitchen”, a canyon of eroded sandstone that glows red and gold at sunset.
