Kitesurfing in Kenya

Steady trade winds make Diani and Watamu two of East Africa’s best kitesurfing spots.

The Kaskazi (north-east) trade wind blows steadily on the Kenyan coast from about December to March, which lines up with the festive season. Diani and Watamu both have flat-water lagoons inside the reef for learning and waves outside for experienced riders.

Certified schools on both beaches offer lessons for beginners and equipment hire for experienced kiters.

Tips

December–March has the most reliable wind.
Beginners need about 3 lessons to ride.
Lessons are paid directly to the school.
